Teaching Myself Guitar is Less Expensive
If you have made up your mind that you are going to learn to play an instrument, you may have decided that "I am teaching myself guitar". Teaching yourself is not an easy task, as it requires determination, dedication and a lot of hard work.
As with any instrument, learning is a long slow process and it is only the will to succeed that will get you through. You must realize that to do things on your own is always harder, and the absence of an instructor or teacher will be felt at various stages. You need to will yourself that "I am teaching myself guitar, and I am going to succeed." With pluck and determination any shortcoming will be overcome. Remember at the end, you will feel doubly satisfied, as you have saved a considerable amount of money on tuition fees, and also the satisfaction of having achieved something on your own.
If you are determined to teach yourself, it is necessary that you get yourself some aids to go about it. It may be difficult to learn by just listening. This is not a wrong method, but it is fraught with other dangers. For instance you may make mistakes without realizing it and never be able to correct it. Therefore it is best to get yourself a guide. This can be in the form of book or a video. Some persons prefer books when they learn by themselves. They read up a particular paragraph, then practice on it and then go back to the book for guidance as and when needed. To be able to do this successfully you need to have a reasonably good sense of music and rhythm. This will help you pick up the basic chords that with practice you will be able master thoroughly and to play much faster.
Videos are used by those who like to watch and learn. It helps in immediately correcting mistakes in holding the guitar, the correct posture to be adopted while playing, and generally gives the learner more confidence. For very basic beginners starting out on their own, this is the best way out.
