So, you have always dreamed of playing heavy metal guitar songs? But if you are a beginner, you might find it difficult to find out where to start. Playing a heavy metal song can be a little difficult to manage if you do not know the right techniques. It is also important to know certain easy songs which might help you to move on to more complicated stuff.

There are few interesting facts about heavy metal songs, which might help you to understand them better. The lyrics of the heavy metal songs are probably not as important as the entire effect that the music is supposed to create. Much of heavy metal songs, especially those belonging to death metal, involve growling and shouting. However, some songs can have simple yet deep and penetrating lyrics.

Many of the songs in heavy metal music deal with abject issues such as life in the streets, usage of drugs, and gory and violent subjects related to death, suicide etc. The dark tones of the lyrics help the composers and the listeners to vent out their frustration and thus it can have a cathartic effect.

There are few things that you should remember before you start learning metal songs. We all admire the guitar greats like Eddie Van Halen, Kirk Hammett, Jimmy Page and Randy Rhoads. But it will be sometime before you start playing like them and for this you would require a lot of talent and even greater hours of practice. The advice that I would give newer guitar players is not to start learning difficult songs as you would quickly lose morale in not being able to play very technical songs.

So, you might start with some easy songs like "Confined" by As I Lay Dying. Although, the guitar part of the song sounds very complicated yet the beauty of the song lies in its simplicity. If you have a good command over the rhythm part, you might play this song with the desired effect. "Change" by Deftones is another easy to play metal song. Although Deftones is essentially a nu metal band, yet the song has various shades of metal music.

Therefore, learning to play heavy metal guitar songs can become a very easy and interesting task if you proceed in a systematic and step by step manner. If you can manage to play these easier songs with adequate skill and passion, you can definitely move on to more complex tunes in a very short span of time.
